Short Uk Bike Routes
A wiki of bike routes for the urban cyclist in search of weekend countryside
- London(ish) to Brighton: 40 miles, train to Caterham from Waterloo. Largely flat with a monster hill right at the end before approaching Brighton.
- Manningtree to Colchester via Mersea Island: 40 miles. Nice countryside. Train to Manningtree from Liv. Street, 1h15
- Hoo Peninsular: 26 miles. Train to and from Gravesend from Charing X, 45 mins. Nice countryside after you leave the chavpit that is Gravesend
- Southend-Burnham-Bradwell: 33 miles. Train to Southend, back from Burnham
- Round the Isle of White: 45 miles. Train to Portsmouth from Clapham, Wightlink to Ryde. Return ferry from Cowes to Southampton, then Soton to Waterloo. Beware South West Trains and their daft bike policy
- Folkstone-Dungeness-Rye: 30 miles. Train to Folkstone from London Bridge. There's a bird research base at Dungeness in the old lighthouse with bunk-house accommodation at £3 a night. They need help mist-netting and ringing migratory birds.
- Kemble-Lechlade-Kemble: 40 miles. Train to Kemble from Paddington, 1 change 1h15. Beautiful cycle-friendly scenery. Plenty of refreshment possibilities en route.
- Faversham-Deal: 43 miles. Train to Faversham from London Bridge direct 1h+. Better to use the clifftop routes rather than the roads where possible.
- Bradgate Loop via Watermead: 21 miles. Great for a quick blast if based in Leicester. Quite a lot of towpaths at the start. Not so good on Sunday afternoons when Bradgate park traverse involves hazardrous hordes of dogs, children and OAP's.
- Amersham-Aylesbury:23 miles. Train to Amersham from Marylebone 30mins. Nice pub in Haddenham for Sunday lunch
- Headcorn loop:32 miles. Train to Headcorn from London Bridge.
- Jimma's amazing loop:26 miles. The Thames, and some south London Parks.
